Purpose of the Study

 

The purpose of this research project is to review and evaluate the organizational structure, management techniques, volunteer programs, and marketing techniques of the Contra Costa Animal Services Department in Martinez, California in order to help reduce the number of animals euthanized annually. By researching the internal operations, this study will give light to any weaknesses in the organizational structure contributing to the low turnover rate of animals brought into the shelter without adoption. As a result, over time, the shelter will be able to increase the number of animals adopted annually.
